McDonough was a petty officer second class in the signal corps and had been in the navy since enlisting January 31, 1943. McDonough, who was home Christmas on a two-weeks’ leave, had recently been engaged in Atlantic convoy duty. In addition to his parents, McDonough’s brother, C. W. McDonough, and his sister, Mrs. Albert Straus, both reside in Sams Valley. The missing officer is well known in the valley, having been engaged in radio and refrigeration work for some time. He was employed by the SOS Packing company for two years as assistant engineer, and also worked for the George Martin Refrigerator Service and Walker’s Radio Shop. He attended the Sams Valley high school, graduating in 1930.
