F. Leavenworth. Captain Leavenworth was a well known and highly respected citizen of Jacksonville, and for many years had charge of a steamer operating on the Columbia river. He was instrumental in building the telephone line between Portland and San Francisco and owned some mines near Yreka Cal. His many acts of charity and kindness will long be remembered throughout the state. The deceased was on the streets at 7 o'clock Tuesday evening when he complained of feeling sick and telephoned for a doctor, a few hours later it was reported that he was dead. The captain left about two months ago for his mines and was obliged to return home on account of the snow and was, from all indications, in good health. The cause of his death was indigestion. He was a Mason in high standing.
