Neilson said today there would probably be no inquest into the automobile accident death yesterday of Chester Roy Knowles, 19, as investigation showed the three boys went to sleep in the car before it struck a culvert on the Crater Lake Highway. The conditions of Ted Von Stein, 18, and Eugene Dunagan, 18, who were also in the automobile, were described as improved today by Community hospital attendants. Chester Roy Knowles, a resident of 539 West Tenth street and the third son of George M. Knowles, resident of Stewart avenue, passed away in a local hospital Thursday afternoon, from injuries received in an automobile accident on the Crater Lake highway. Chester was born near Medford on February 10, 1923, and was aged 19 years, nine months and two days. He received his education in the Medford, Phoenix and Prospect schools, graduating from high school at Prospect. He was employed at the Medford and Long Beach hotels for several years and was employed for some time in the shipyards at Richmond, Calif. He leaves his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. George M. Knowles and three brothers and one sister, Henry Knowles of Portland, Warner Knowles who is serving his country in the U. S. Army, George Edward Knowles, Jr., of Prospect, Mrs. Ted Vance of Long Beach, Calif. Funeral services will be conducted from the Perl Funeral Home on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Fred M. Weatherford officiating. Interment will take place in the Trail cemetery.
