No motives for suicide were shown. The unfortunate young man was of a cheerful disposition and never addicted to moody moments. At no time in the presence of his family or friends had he mentioned taking his life or acted in any manner that would lead them to believe that his mind was unbalanced. The coroner’s jury found that his death was instantaneous, being caused by a gunshot wound that entered over the right ear and tore away the entire top of the head. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Weeks & McGowan chapel, the Rev. W. T. McGoulder officiating. Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Wednesday, 3 July 1912, p. 5, c. 3-4 The funeral services of Earl Kennedy were held Sunday afternoon at the Weeks & McGowan Chapel, the Rev. W. T. McGoulder officiating. The services were largely attended and the floral offerings were profuse. Earl was beloved by all who knew him, social in his character and ardent in his temperament, he had drawn around him a large circle of friends, but he passed away ere the sun of hope had fairly risen above the horizon, hounding between youth and manhood like some proud steamer newly and seemingly well filled for a long and prosperous voyage suddenly wrecked, so did his strong form go down before he had fairly started on the voyage of life. Many loving friends stand upon the shores of time and cast a long and anxious look after their loving companion. A kind father, a loving mother and a devoted sister and brothers were over the last light of the household but he shall not return to us, yet we can go to him. “This bright young traveler on the path of life / Holy Angels from earth’s scenes did allure / Ere his young heart had known the toils and strife / Maturer age in sorrow most endure. / Why should we weep his being called above? / To be forever in our youth caressed, / Where no temptations taint the fount of love / No devastations mar his youthful breast. / Thrice happier they that leave this dark above / With no regrets no sins to be forgiven. / Their souls returning to the breast of God / To dwell forever in the light of heaven. / Then let the sweetest flowers of Spring / Bloom here alone, no weeping ash or willow. / Let rose and lilly purest emblems cling / In rich festoons around his grassy pillow." --A.
