All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ********************************************************************************* Transcribed and formatted for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Elizabeth ************************************************************************ HOUSTON, William, Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Friday, 2 Oct 1942 -- William Thomas Houston, well known pioneer of Jackson county, where he was born near Jacksonville, October 20, 1865, and where he has spent his entire lifetime of 76 years, 11 months and 11 days, passed away suddenly at his farm home on the Old Stage road north of Jacksonville at 8 a.m. Thursday. He had been in usual health until being stricken with apoplexy a few minutes before his demise. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Milton A. Houston, who crossed the plains to California in 1850 and came to Jackson county before Oregon became a state. Mr. Houston was of fine Christian character and leaves hosts of friends throughout southern Oregon who will regret to hear of his passing. Besides his wife, Emma Frances Houston, he leaves seven children: Frank of Phoenix; Milton of the Applegate; Orage of Flat, Alaska; Merle, Graves Creek, Oregon; Josephine Cornutt, Central Point; Eula Middlebusher, Prospect; and Gwendolyn Edgecomb, Susanville, Cal. Also eleven grandchildren and one sister and one brother, Louise Rodgers of Medford and John A. Houston of Eagle Point. Funeral services will be held in the Conger chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday, with Rev. Campbell of Central Point officiating. Interment will be in the Central Point cemetery.
