She was born in Iowa on Jan. 14, 1858. In 1880, with her parents, the late Elbert and Mary Hammond, she moved to the valley from Visalia, Calif. Four years later in Jacksonville she was united in marriage to Jack Houston. To this union four children were born, two of whom are living. They took up a homestead at Long Branch, near Trail, living there until ten years ago when they moved to Eagle Point. She was a life member of the Methodist church. Surviving besides her husband are a son, Edward, Trail; a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Kent; five grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Services will be held in the Conger-Morris chapel at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Pollock, Eagle Point, officiating. Interment will be in the Trail cemetery.
