Hoppin, well known local rancher, who has been critically ill at a local hospital the past week died this afternoon just as this paper was going to press, which rendered impossible a more extended notice. Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Wednesday, 15 April 1925, p. 3 HOPPIN - Frederick Layton Hoppin, a resident of the valley for the past 15 years and a well known rancher passed away on April 14th at the Sacred Heart hospital after an illness of the past two weeks. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hoppin of Rose avenue, Medford. Deceased was a graduate of Cornell university, class of 1907, and in the 39th year of his age. Besides his widow, Katherine Watson Hoppin, he leaves his parents, one sister, Mrs. Ira D. Canfield, Medford, Ore.; two brothers, John K., Minneapolis, Minn. and Chas. A. of Peoria, Ill. Mr. Hoppin was a member of Medford Lodge No. 1168 B.P.O.E., and well and favorably known throughout the valley. The funeral services will be held at the ranch home on the North Jacksonville road at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Rev. Wm. B. Hamilton officiating, after which the remains will be taken to Portland for cremation. Arrangements will be in charge of the Perl Funeral Home.
