Her death came on the anniversary of her birth, Jan. 15, 1844. She had been bedfast with her illness for the past eight months. Jane Spurgeon was born in Newton county, Missouri December 10, 1865. She married Alfred Hooker, a Civil war soldier and to this union were born eight children, four of whom have preceded her in death. She is survived by one daughter and three sons, Mrs. H. A. Fredenburg, Medford, J. D. Hooker and W. A. Hooker of Medford and H. E. Hooker, American Falls, Idaho, sixteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren, and twin brothers, Amos Spurgeon, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Perry Spurgeon, Pueblo, Colorado. Mrs. Hooker came to Oregon in 1883 and has resided in Medford for the past 29 years. She was known by her friends as Grandma Hooker. She was known and loved by a host of friends, besides her relatives. Funeral services will be held at the Perl Funeral home Saturday at 2 p.m. Hugh W. Buch will officiate, and interment will take place in the Medford cemetery.
