J. Hockersmith, relict of the late Jackson Hockersmith, died at the home of her son-in-law, A. P. Weiss, on Griffin creek, on Thursday evening, March 12th. Mrs. Hockersmith was a pioneer of Oregon, having come from Illinois in 1853, settling in the Willamette Valley and removing to Jackson County in 1867. Six children survive her--Mrs. A. P. Weiss, of Griffin creek; Mrs. H. H. Taylor, of Roxy; Mrs. Sadie Van Tine, of Tenino, Wash.; John N. Hockersmith, of Medford; Jos. W. Hockersmith, of California. The interment took place in the Phoenix cemetery, Saturday afternoon, under the auspices of the 1st Spiritual Society of Southern Oregon, of which the deceased was a member.
