W. HERBERT OF ASHLAND PASSES A. W. Herbert, a resident of Ashland for the past 26 years, passed away at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Bower, at Crescent City, Cal., October 9. He was born in England 87 years ago, having come to this country when a child. He lived in New York, Illinois, Wisconsin, coming to the vicinity of Corvallis in the early '80s. He is survived by his wife, to whom he was married 60 years, also a son and five daughters, including Mrs. R. N. Chaney and Mrs. Ralph Billings of Ashland. Funeral services are to be conducted tomorrow at Crescent City. Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Friday, 12 Oct 1934, p. 4 A. W. HERBERT OF ASHLAND PASSES ASHLAND, Oct. 12.--(Spl.)--A. W. Herbert, a resident of this city for 25 years, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 1934, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. B. Bower of Crescent City, Calif., where he had gone for a visit a few days ago. Augustus Ward Herbert was born in England November 21, 1847, coming to this country when a small child, and living in the states of New York, Illinois and Wisconsin. Sixty-four years ago he married Sarah Baldwin at Oregon, Wis., later coming with her and her family to Oregon. They settled near Corvallis where they made their home for many years. In 1909 they moved to Ashland where they have since resided. Mr. Herbert was well known and highly respected during his long residence here. He was a life-long member of the Methodist Episcopal church. He is survived by his wife, five daughters, and one son, Mrs. E. A. Blake of Corvallis, Mrs. Ralph Billings and Mrs. R. N. Chaney of this city; Mrs. A. B. Bower of Crescent City, Calif.; Mrs. C. C. Clark and S. D. Herbert of Stockton, Calif., and W. M. Herbert, a nephew, of Ashland. Funeral services were held at Crescent City at 10:30 o'clock Thursday, October 11.
