At the age of seven she crossed the plains to Oregon, arriving in Portland in 1853. The family made their home on a tract of land, the site of which is now Sixth and Washington streets. When 16 the family moved to Albany, where she was married in 1864 to Geo. W. Hearing, who preceded her to the great beyond. To this union 11 children were born, of whom two boys, Geo. A. of Minam, Ore., and Merland V., of Wallowa, Ore; and five girls, Mrs. Alice Bays, Bend, Ore., Mrs. May Leeper and Mrs. O. H. Dalkey of Medford, and Mrs. Geo. Childers and Mrs. Oliver Woods of Lostine, Ore., survive. She passed away at 7:55 p.m. May 29, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. O. H. Dalkey, near Central Point, being at the time of her death 82 years, 10 months and 1 day of age. She moved with her family to Wallowa county in 1889, where she remained until 1925, when she came to Medford and resided until her death. She was one of Oregon's real pioneers, being on the frontiers most of her life. Her patience and fortitude during tribulation were an example to all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her loss, in addition to the above, a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be buried beside her husband and children in the cemetery at Lostine, Ore. She had an abiding faith in God and man, was a member of the Christian church, a patient acceptance of joy or care, and though gone will never be forgotten. Her shining example will remain with all who knew her. Remains were forwarded by Conger funeral parlors to Lostine Friday at 6:20, where funeral services and interment will be held.
