D. Hart. After a long and painful illness, we are called upon to chronicle the death of L. D. Hart, which occurred at the family residence in Josephine county, Sept. 23, 1884. Mr. Hart was born in Onondago county, N. Y., Jan. 9, 1824. In 1836 he moved with his father, R. Hart, to Michigan, where he married Miss H. L. Fuller, May 4, 1847, and remained in Michigan until 1854, when they moved to Oregon, becoming one of the early settlers in Josephine county. He engaged in farming, a pursuit he followed up to the time of his death. In 1865 he returned with his family to Michigan, to care for his parents in their declining years, with whom he remained until they were called away to their heavenly home. After duty was done there his heart longed for the sunny clime of Oregon; hence, in 1873, he returned with his family to the peaceful shores of the Pacific, where he remained until called upon to answer the summons of "He who doeth all things well." Mr. Hart's sufferings were intense for months, yet he bore them with the peaceful resignation and patience of the true and noble Christian which he was. He leaves a widow and five children to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and a kind and affectionate father. May he rest in peace. A. M. D.
