Death of a Good Woman. Mrs. A. S. Hammond, wife of Attorney Hammond, died at 
the family residence in this city on Thursday morning, June 26, 1902, aged 
forty-two years. Mrs. Hammond had been an invalid for a number of years, but 
only a few hours before she was taken violently ill, she seemed in better 
health than she had for months. Late Tuesday evening after she had retired as 
usual, she was taken with a fainting spell, from which she partially 
recovered, but on Wednesday afternoon she was taken with convulsions of the 
heart, and these continued until Thursday morning at a little after 5 o’clock, 
when life departed from the frail, worn and tired body, which had suffered so 
long. Deceased was a good woman and none knew of her sterling worth better 
than the writer of these lines, whose family has been her closest friend and 
near neighbor for several years. She leaves to mourn her demise her husband, 
five children and an aged father and mother, the latter residing in Iowa. 
Short funeral services will be held at the residence at 2 o’clock, Friday. 
Interment in Odd Fellows cemetery. 
Deceased was born in Buchanan County, Iowa, and was married to A. S. Hammond 
in 1870. She was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge of this city.

Medford, West Medford Precinct; headstone at cemetery has "Jessie" on it.
