GOULD TAKEN BY DEATH Oliver J. Gould, local agent for the Railway Express company until his retirement in November of 1942, died this afternoon at the family home, 1316 West Main St. At the time of his retirement Mr. Gould had been with the express firm nearly 55 years. In recent months he had served as a volunteer at the local war price and ration board. A complete obituary for the deceased will be published tomorrow. GOULD Funeral services were held this afternoon in St. Mark's Episcopal church for Oliver J. Gould, 70, well known and highly respected citizen of Medford who passed away at his home, 1316 West Main street, Tuesday. The Rev. George [-?-] Turney, pastor of St. Mark's church, was in charge of the service. The body will be forwarded this evening by Conger-Morris Funeral Parlors to Portland where final rites and interment will take place. Oliver Gould was born at Burlington, Kan., June 28, 1873. Coming to Portland in the early eighties, he entered the service of the Wells Fargo Express company in 1890, being 17 years old at the time. Mr. Gould continued in this work for almost 53 years and for several years prior to his retirement in 1942 was Medford agent for the Railway Express company. He had worked with the express companies at Portland, Medford, Salem and Newcastle, Calif., and came to Medford from Salem about 30 years ago. Mr. Gould was an active member of St. Mark's church and was senior warden of the vestry at the time of his death. He had served as chairman of the city planning commission and was a volunteer worker for the local war price and ration board until recently. The deceased was married to Margaret Garson, with whom he went to school as a child, in Portland in 1895. Besides his wife Mr. Gould leaves five children, Mrs. J. R. Talbert, Beaverton, Ore.; George T. Gould, Portland; Ronald G., Sacramento, Calif.; Sgt. Robert J. and Pfc. Colin J. Gould, both in the armed forces.
