CAROLINE DOUDEN (maiden Fredenburg)

Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Friday, September 20, 1907,
from County Exchanges: Mrs. Caroline Dowden, widow of the late
Joseph Dowden, and one of the best known pioneer ladies of
Southern Oregon, died at her home near Gold Hill last Sunday
morning at the age of 82 years. Mrs. Dowden was born in Kentucky
in 1825 and came to Linn county, Oregon, in 1867. In 1869 she
moved with her husband the late Joseph Dowden, to Jackson county
and located on the homestead, which has become familiar as "old
Dowden place," and which was her home until the time of her
death. Three children survive her, Mrs. George Lyman, Mrs. H. T.
Pankey and Andy Hooten, all of Gold Hill. The funeral services
were held in the Rock Point cemetery, by Rev. W. F. Shields of
Medford.
