Mrs. Dowden was born in Kentucky in 1825 and came to Linn county, Oregon, in 1867. In 1869 she moved with her husband the late Joseph Dowden, to Jackson county and located on the homestead, which has become familiar as "old Dowden place," and which was her home until the time of her death. Three children survive her, Mrs. George Lyman, Mrs. H. T. Pankey and Andy Hooten, all of Gold Hill. The funeral services were held in the Rock Point cemetery, by Rev. W. F. Shields of Medford.
