Medford (Oregon) Mail, Friday, 15 Feb 1901, Gold Hill Items, p. 3, c. 3
Died--At his residence two miles east of Gold Hill, on February 11, 1901, 
Joseph Douden, aged 75 ears and five months, of paralysis. He was a native of 
North Carolina and came to Oregon when a boy. He had been a resident of Rogue 
river valley for the last thirty-three years. A wife survives him. Interment 
took place in the Sams Valley cemetery on Wednesday, February 13, Rev. 
Wallace, of Ashland, officiating.
