Mr. Conklin was born at Atlanta, Logan county, Ill., May 7, 1859, the second son of a family of four, born to Thomas and Laura Conklin. When Mr. Conklin was about the age of 10 their home was broken by the death of the mother. The father, being unable to keep the little family together and work at his trade, placed the children wherever homes could be secured. Mr. Conklin was raised on a farm, until twenty-one, securing what education he could between working seasons. At the ge of twenty-one he left the farm and secured a position in a furniture store at Atlanta, Ill., which he held for a number of years. In 1883 he married Miss Anna S. Nowell of Fairfield, Iowa, who passed away June 2, 1931, in Medford. To this union four children were born. Three passed away in infancy. At the age of eighteen, Mr. Conklin united with the First Methodist church, and upon his arrival in Medford immediately became affiliated with the local church, holding many official positions. In 1907, he became a partner in the Medford Furniture company, which later was known as the Medford Furniture & Hardware company. He retired from active business in 1930. He leaves to mourn his loss, his widow, Mrs. Lillie M. Conklinof Phoenix, Ore., one son, Earl O. Conklin Sr., of Tacoma; two brothers, Clifford A. Conklin of Lincoln, Ill., Edwin A. Conklin of Atlanta, Ill., and one sister, Mrs. A. D. Morrison, of Zanesville, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted from the Perl Funeral home Friday afternoon at 3:00 o’clock with Rev. Joseph Knotts of the First Methodist church officiating. Remains will be transferred to Tacoma Friday evening, accompanied by Mrs. Conklin and Earl Conklin for interment.
