CENTERS, NATIVE SON, DIES; FUNERAL TUESDAY Frank M. Centers, a native son of southern Oregon, born at Central Point, Jan. 28, 1862, passed away at a local hospital Friday, after an illness of the past two months. The family home is on Route 2. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Centers, were among the earliest settlers of Oregon. They came overland from Missouri in 1845 by ox team and covered wagon. They settled in Waldo Hills, Ore., coming to southern Oregon in 1859. Mr. Centers drove a pack train between Crescent City and Jacksonville for three years. He helped erect the first cabin built in Jacksonville in the fall of 1847. Frank Centers is the last survivor of a family of eight children. He was a farmer by occupation, and has been retired for the past 25 years. He leaves a host of friends. He was a very kindly gentleman, loved by all who knew him. He had been a member of the Baptist church for many years. He is survived by his wife, Mary B. Centers of Medford, one son, M. S. Centers of Ashland, Ore., and one daughter, Mrs. Essie Fox of Medford, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Perl Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. W. A. Dawes officiating. Entombment will be in the Medford Memorial Mausoleum.
