Our good friend and neighbor William Carter died at his home in the Meadows 
last Friday from injuries received by a log rolling over him while engaged in 
logging at Mr. Wilson’s mill on Evans creek, and was laid to rest in the 
Antioch cemetery Saturday. The sudden and unexpected death and the crude 
manner in which it occurred cast a gloom of sorrow over the entire community, 
as it has lost a kind, honest, upright citizen and the G. A. R. one of its 
most useful members. He leaves a wife, one son, and two daughters, one at home 
and one married in California.
