BEST, 66 TAKEN BY DEATH David V. Best, 66, passed away at the home of his son, Glen E. Best, Thompson Creek, Thursday. While he had not been in the best of health for about two years, death came unexpectedly. He was born in Lion county, Kansas, Sept. 30, 1877, and had made his home with his son for the past year. Also surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Grace R. Hunter, Applegate; a niece and a nephew, Fred McCoy and Mrs. Dora Corwin, in California, that he raised from early childhood; four step-children, Mrs. Nellie Best, Applegate; Mrs. Geo. Smith, William and Clarence Eldridge, all in California; a sister, Mrs. Cora McClune, Fresno, Calif., and 15 grandchildren. He was a member of Applegate Grange, No. 766. Services will be in the Conger-Morris chapel Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ward Lamkin officiating. Interment will be in Central Point cemetery. Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Monday, 24 Apr 1944, p. 8 Funeral services for David V. Best, Applegate resident who passed away April 13, were held April 18 with interment in Central Point cemetery. Born Sept. 30, 1877, on a farm in Lyon county, Kansas, David Best was the son of George and Roena Best. Hew as united in marriage in 1903 with Bertha Baysinger, and two children, Glen and Grace, were born. He and his family moved in 1907 to New Mexico where they lived on a cattle ranch until 1917, then moving to Southern California. In 1918, Mr. and Mrs. Best took two small children, a niece and nephew, Dora and Fred McCoy, who had been left homeless into their home to raise.
