Mrs. Bess died ten days ago, April 16, following a long illness. Missing greatly his most beloved friend and companion, Mr. Bess had returned to his work at the Southern Pacific company in this city working last night and upon returning home this morning was preparing to do some business down town when apparently he began to feel ill and called his daughter, Mrs. Gerald Wenner of this city, who went immediately to her father but arriving there shortly before 11 o'clock found him on the bed where he had passed away at about 10:30. In 1907 Mr. Bess and his family came west from Iowa settling in Dunsmuir, California where they resided until 1916 when they moved to Ashland and have since made their home here, residing at 501 Allison street. During his residence in this city Mr. Bess was well liked and made a large group of friends who are grieved by his passing. Surviving him are four daughters, Mrs. James Homes of Riddle, Oregon; Mrs. Harry Hill of Whittier, California; Mrs. Ed Stanley of Dunsmuir and Mrs. Gerald Wenner of this city. No funeral arrangements have yet been made pending the arrival of his daughters. J. P. Dodge & Sons are in charge.
