M. Berry, a highly respected pioneer of Jacksonville, died on Thursday, September 3, 1908, at Delphi, Ind., aged 84 years. Death was caused by general debility due to old age. Mrs. Berry was born at Delphi, Ind., September 16, 1824. Her maiden name was Wilson. In 1850 she was married to A. M. Berry. In 1857 Mrs. Berry, with her husband and two children, came west by way of the Isthmus of Panama to San Francisco, then to Crescent City by boat, thence on a mule's back from Crescent City to Jacksonville, where they lived for nearly 50 years on the Berry farm, just east of town. Mrs. Berry is survived by three children, Isaac, Wilson Berry of Jacksonville, Mrs. Mary De Lamater of Portland and Mrs. Alice Kane of Ashland. The remains will reach Jacksonville, Saturday. Interment will be made in the Jacksonville cemetery, beside the graves of her deceased husband, son and daughter. Medford (Oregon) Mail, Friday, 18 Sep 1908, p. 5, c. 5 The body of Mrs. Mary A. Berry, one of the early settlers near Jacksonville, was brought in on No. 13 yesterday from Delphi, Ind., where she had been visiting at the home of a brother and sister, and where she died September 3, at the ripe old age of 83 years. Her daughter, Mrs. M. De Lamatte, of Portland, Or., was with her in her last illness and accompanied her body here. Another daughter, Mrs. A. Kane, of Oakland, Cal., met the sister at Grant's Pass and returned with her to Jacksonville. Funeral services will be held in Jacksonville today.
