Over at Applegate, last Friday, a sad and fatal accident happened to Mr. Chas. Oppenbacker, a rancher living near that place. Sometime during the day, or perhaps in the evening, we did not learn the exact time, Mr. Oppenbacker heard a noise at the barn and upon going to investigate he found his horses raising a great rumpus by kicking and biting each other. He was endeavoring to quiet them when a kick from one of the animals loosened one of the timbers overhead, which in falling struck Mr. Oppenbacker on the head and crushed his skull, and from the effects of which he died the following day. Dr. Pickel was sent for but before he arrived the gentleman expired.
