J. Smith, well known resident of the Orchard Home district, west Medford, passed away very suddenly while seated in his car at the Tomlin Box factory shortly before noon today, where he had gone on an errand of business. Dr. Sleeter was immediately summoned, but Mr. Smith was dead when he arrived. Heart trouble was the supposed cause of death as he has suffered that affliction for some time. William John Smith was born at Wexford, Michigan, March 28, 1870. Aged 56 years, 9 months and 10 days. He came west at the age of 20 years and was engaged in the saw mill business at Detroit, Linn county, Oregon. He later returned to Michigan and was married to Glennie Alexander in 1903. Later with their children they again turned westward and came to Medford seven years ago where they have since resided. Mrs. Smith and son Allen are at home while their daughter Grace is attending State Normal at Ashland. She came home immediately upon receipt of the sad news. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. E. P. Lawrence, will be held at the Conger chapel at 2:00 p.m. Monday. The body will be laid in the Medford Memorial Mausoleum.
