He was a member of a hunting party, consisting of his father, F. Rowe, and Otis Wilson. Meager details received here by phone were that a deer had been wounded and in attempting to get him the hunters surrounded the crippled animal in a small brush thicket. Several shots were fired and young Rowe dropped, after exclaiming: "I am shot," dying in his father's arms. The bullet passed through the young man's heart, piercing his arm also. The bullet is supposed to have been deflected by a branch and the shooting was purely accidental. James Rowe was a member of the Sam's Valley camp of Modern Woodmen. His body was brought home by Coroner Kellogg Friday evening.
