Dole, 3-Year-Old Boy Die A 29-year-old Medford man, Lloyd Homer Dole, and a three-year-old Shady Cove boy, Douglas John Nork, died yesterday as the result of accidents. Dole was killed when his revolver accidentally discharged, and the small boy died when the top of a tree fell on him. According to state police, coroner and sheriff's reports, Dole and his brother-in-law, A. C. Smith, and Smith's son, George E. Smith, all of 1479 Orchard Home drive, had driven to Wickiup forest camp, 22 miles above Butte Falls. About 11:45 a.m. they started up the old Red Lake trail for Wickiup Meadows, where they planned to sight-in their guns and check the ground for deer hunting and to see if horses could be used. After 1-1/4 miles, they stopped to drink from a spring. According to the report, when Dole leaned down to drink, his .22 caliber revolver, carried in an open-type holster, fell into the water. Dole returned the gun to the holster and made a second attempt to drink when the gun again fell, hit a rock and discharged, the bullet hitting Dole in the right chest, the men reported. Young Smith went to the Butte Falls ranger station, and sought aid from Ranger Beeman, and the two returned to the scene with a stretcher. It was thought that Dole died immediately. Dole, unmarried, made his home with the Smiths. His mother, Mrs. Elsie Dole, Seattle, had recently arrived here to visit her family. The body is at Conger-Morris funeral parlor from where funeral arrangements will be announced. The second accident happened about 11 miles northeast of McLeod, near Lost Creek, where the boy's father, B. F. Nork, and a fellow logger, V. E. House, were engaged in setting a jammer. According to the report, Nork but Douglas and a brother, Bennie, 7, on a log with instructions to stay there while the two men worked. The men then put a line around a tree and in the course of their work the top broke out and fell, the report said. The older boy scrambled from the log in time to escape, but the younger was killed by the impact of the tree-top. The body was brought to Conger-Morris funeral parlors and funeral arrangements will be announced later. Survivors include the parents, two brothers, Bennie and Steven, and four grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Nork, Eagle Point, and Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Day, Cottonwood, Calif.
