Hawk is expected to arrive in Medford from overseas Monday morning. Private Hawk was born in Pennsylvania August 25, 1892, came to Oregon in the year 1905. On Nov. 26, 1917, he enlisted in the marines. He immediately went overseas, where he served in many thrilling engagements, and held a number of citations for his gallant bravery in battle. For a time he was with the 6th Machine Gun Battalion under command of Major Cole. This battalion was thrown into full battle on a front violently attacked by the enemy on its very entry on the fighting line, and broke down a violent attack. He was killed in action July 19, 1918, in the battle of Chateau Thierry. Funeral services will be held at the First Christian church Monday at 2 p.m. under the direction of the American Legion assisted by Rev. D. E. Millard. Interment will be made in the family plot in I. O. O. F. cemetery.
