On Wednesday morning news was brought to Medford to the effect that a man named Hall, living on a homestead on Elk creek, this county, was found dead on the ground about a quarter of a mile from his cabin. Mr. Gordon, a neighbor of Hall's, brought the news to Central Point and from there telephoned to Medford for the coroner. All the facts which could be elicited are that Hall was a homesteader and had lived in that locality about two years and was of Swedish birth; that he was last seen alive by the neighbors Sunday afternoon; that he had met his death by a rifle bullet which was fired from behind, entering the back of the head and coming out at the forehead; that tracks of two men were found leading to the scene of the tragedy and that the tracks of only one man were found leaving the place. Coroner Kirchgessner and District Attorney Jeffrey left Wednesday for the purpose of holding an inquest over the remains.
