Jas. Franks, a German, by occupation a gardener, committed suicide at his home a few miles above Woodville, on Evans creek, last Thursday night, by taking an overdose of opium with suicidal intent. Dr. [ ? ]one, of Grant's Pass, was summoned and certified to the cause of death. There being no suspicious circumstances, an inquest was not deemed necessary. Franks came to Ashland some four years ago and purchased property there, supporting himself and two sons by market gardening. Recently he sold his Ashland property and bought a piece of railroad land on Evans creek, where the death occurred. It is reported that he had often threatened to make away with himself, giving domestic troubles as a reason.
