JONES FOREST HEAD, DIES AT REDDING MEET William Vernon Jones, 42, supervisor of Lassen National Forest of Susanville, Calif., and a former Medford resident, died suddenly yesterday while attending a meeting of forest supervisors. An autopsy was to be held this morning to determine cause of death, according to relatives here. Mr. Jones was born in Medford Jan. 31, 1901, and resided her continuously until taking up his work with the forest service in California after graduating from University of Oregon. He married the former Esther Ashcraft of Medford, who survives, and their only son, William Vernon, Jr., is now in the army. Other survivors are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. William L. Jones, 343 Apple St., Medford; two sisters, Mrs. Lolita Phelan, 732 West Second St., Medford, and Mrs. L. C. Wilson, Camas, Wash.; a brother, Chester L. Jones of Bremerton; two grandmothers, Mrs. Mary A. Jones, 429 S. Grape St., and Mrs. C. L. Rodgers, 343 Apple St. Mrs. Jones's mother, Mrs. Lillian Ashcraft, makes her home here at 345 South Central Ave. The body is being brought to Medford and funeral arrangements are in charge of Perl's Funeral Home. The deceased, his father and son were the subject of an article in a national forestry journal last winter which pointed out that the three generations of men were all foresters, William Vernon, Jr., being at that time a student of forestry. William L. Jones has retired from forestry after having been an employee of the Rogue River forest service for more than 25 years. Jones, who passed away at Susanville, Calif., Jan. 4, will be conducted from Perl Funeral Home Saturday at 2 p.m. Medford lodge No. 103 A. F. & A. M. will have complete charge of services, and interment will take place in Siskiyou Memorial Park.
