Yesterday Wm. Briscoe was released from confinement in the penitentiary, and he immediately started for his home in Jackson county. Mr. Briscoe was sentenced to the penitentiary in 1884 for eight years for complicity in a stage robbery which took place in southern Oregon. He is the father of a large family and at the time of his sentence had eight children. Since then three of them have died. Through the influence of the Jackson county delegation Briscoe's sentence was commuted from eight to three years by Governor Moody, and his term having expired yesterday, he was released from confinement and immediately started for Jackson county, where his family is in indigent circumstances. - Salem Statesman, January 30th.
