A few hours before he had received treatment at a hospital for a severe cut chin and bruised mouth. Johnson was taken to the hospital by a Mexican and a Filipino at 11 o'clock last night. His face was dressed by a physician and he was put to bed in the hospital. At 3 a.m. he dressed and told the night nurse he could return Tuesday to pay the bill. He went home, entered the house without disturbing his wife, obtained a 12- gauge shotgun and shells and went outside where he shot himself through the head. He held a small stick in his hand with which to press the trigger. Anna Johnson, his widow, said Johnson had been despondent over failure to obtain work.
