These young people are well known in Canby and need no comment or introduction from the Herald, both having lived here since childhood.Mrs.Marks,the bride,is a daughter of Mr.and Mrs.O.J. Mays who own the truck farm in the Riverside district.Mr.and Mrs.Marks both attended the public school and high school in Canby. The groom,a son of Mr.and Mrs.John Marks,is well known in Cnby where he has been identified in the strawberry plant business for a number of years, supplying the california markets to a great extent, and recently established the Canby Seed Company. He is a "regular fellow" in every sense of the word and his friends are numbered by his acquaintances. Both of the young couple are of the finest type of American citizenship, and Canby may well congratulate itself that they are to continue their residence here. This paper heartily joins their friends in wishing them "bon voyage" on the sea of matrimony and all the happiness allotted to mortlas. The bridal couple expect to return to Canby next week and will be at home in apartments near the fair grounds which Mr.Marks has provded in anticipation of this, the greatest event in his life.It was only through a "streak of good luck" however, that he had a house to return to. Close Call To Fire Friday faternoon, while working in the fiel dnear the house,Mr.Marks heard a sound like the burning of wood.Lookinf toward the house he discovered that the roofof the building was on fire.He was alone at the time, and at first glance it seemed that to save the building would be among the impossibilities. With a pail of water in his hands he climbed to the top of the building at the same time alling for help.Men employed at the fairgrounds heard the alarm and went to his rescue. The fire had gained considerable headway and it was with difficulty the flames were extinguished, and even then not until a big hole had been burned in the shingled roof.Mr.Marks believes that the fire originated from a cinder in the chimney.he believes.also that ,in spite of the help which promptly responded to his alarm, the buiolding could not have been saved ********************************** Additional Comments: Astericks denote unreadable text File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/or/clackamas/vitals/marriages/mays214gmr.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/orfiles/ File size: 3.5 Kb
