All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com January 7, 2007, 10:48 am Canby Herald April12,1928 W.C.Culbertson and Miss Charlotte Bowen Married An Easter wedding of charm and distinction at the subrban hmoe of Mr. and Mrs. James Edward Bowen,when their daughter,Charlotte Kandace Bowen,became the bride of Mr.Willima C.Culbertson,a prominently known hotelman of the Pacific Coast,operating a chain of hotels in Oregon and Washington.James Martyn Wilson,miistaer of St.James Presbyterian church read the impressive unrevised service at 2:30 o'clock on Easter Sunday,April 8,befoer an assemblage of the bride's family members and close friends. In a corner of the living room was an improvised arbor of three lofty standards filled with pink and white pompom chrysanthemums,sword ferns and trailing vines,while at the base were potted Easter Lilies.A profusion of dainty spring flowers were arranged in bouquets about the rooms. Miss Doris Smith sang "O Promise Me" to accompinament od Miss Viola Jackson,as the bridal party advanced from the stairway.Little Junior Dibble,nephew of the bride,was clad in a black satin suit wih Lord Fauntleroy collar and cuffs of white lace,and he carried the wedding ring within a spray of Easter Lilies.Betty Jean Clacker,sweetly dainty in her frock of pale pink crepe de chine with lace ruffles,had her tiny basket filled with sweetpeas. The Misses Eve and Harriet Bowen,sisters of the bride,wore pastel colored dresss and they carried Bibles,forming the base for their bouquets of rosebuds,valley lillies and forget me nots. The bride was gowned in an imported model of exquisite white chiffon,hand painted in orchid and silver colors predominating,and specially designed for the extremely long skirt with uneven hemline,flowing sleeves and a caoe extending almost to the waist over each shoulder.The dress foundation was cream shaded satin.With the Bible also carried by the bride,was a nosegay of valley lilies and a single large orchid. The groom,with his attendants,the bride's brother and nephew,Mr.Carles Bowen and Bruce Holt,were attired in dress suits with white carnations in the lapels. After the ceremony,Miss Smith sanf"I Love You Truly" and there was an informal reception over which the bride's mother and sister,Mrs.Robert Bowen and Mrs.E.C.Holt,Sr.,presided.The wedding dinner was served to thirty six guests and seated with the seventeen family members,at a seperate table,were Mr.and Mrs.Wilson.The bridal motif for the table was a miniature bride and groom surmounted on a heart shaped centerpiece and surrounded with low bowls of daffodils and gleaming tapers. A program consisted of readings by Mrs.Walker,of Seattle,fancy toe dances by Betty jean Hacker,Leona and Billy Hacker;violin solos by Miss Irene Jackson and piano solos,Mr.Charles Bowen. Mr.and Mrs Culbertson departed on their wedding trip,motoring ot Vancouver and Victoria B.C. and points South,expecting to take residence at the Hotel Seward in Portland after May 1. For traveling Mrs.Culbertson wore a modish ensemble of lack satin and Kasha cloth with the double cape and a close fitting black straw chapeau.
