Local Man Is Suicide
John G.Whiteman Takes Own Life Tuesday: Note Is Left
Self inflicted death took one of Oswego's citizens some time Tuesday night 
when John G.Whiteman ended his life by taking poison in a rooming house in 
Independence,Ore. The news was learned here Wednesday night when,after 
Mrs.G.Manning,housekeeper at the Oswego Rooming house,which was owned by 
Whitemna,found a note left by the man,a telephone message from Independence 
stated that the body had been found there.
Therer was evidence that Whiteman,who was about 60 years old and came hewre 
last December from Jefferson,Oregon had contemplated this act for some 
time.Tuesday morning he visited a number of his tenenats and 
friends,apparently for a last chat.Upon leaving the rooming house which he 
owned he asked the housekeeper to be sure to take care of things as he was 
goinfg away.
When Mrs.Manning found the note Tuesday she notified Claude Whiteman,son of 
the deceased,who immediately started out to hunt for his father,not being 
inclined to believe that the act had been committed.No word had been recieved 
from him Thursday and disposal is awaiting his return.
Mr.Whiteman had not been in the best of health and for some time had been 
receiving treatments from a Portland physician,whom he wa to have consulted 
Tuesday afternoon.In his farewell note he mentions money matters,noting a sum 
due him from a former tenant,and it is thought that financial worries coupled 
with ill health was the culprit.
