Nick Skilbred Laid To rest In Zoar Cemetary
Nick Skilbred was born in Norway,March 31,1887.He came to America in the 
spring of 1907.He attended Concordia College ,Moorhead,Minn.,two years 
together with his brother,who is now Rev Skilbred of Canby.
Nick  Skilbred tried several occupations .He clerked for two years,he was 
motorman ont he street car in St Paul and Minneapolis.He farmed a couple years 
ago in Nebraska,together with his brother Christopher.But his trade was 
cook.When our country entered the war he enlisted as such in Camp 
lewis,Washington,till the end of the war.Fromt hat time he cooked for oil 
companies in Montana.A month ago the camp im which he worked was closed and he 
hire dout for  a mining company in Idaho.As he was on his way to the new place 
of work he came into an awful snow storm and was overcome by it.he fell 
unconsciuos and was brought to Spokane.There he ewas doing well for several 
days.The doctors thought he would make it,but on Wednesday,Dec 13th at noon, a 
suden change took place and he died the same day at 3 p.m. His brother 
Christopher,of Bilings,Mont.,was with him from Sunday till the end and brought 
him to Canby for burial.Funeral services were held on Friday ,Dec.15,from the 
Canby Lutheran Church,Rev Hendrickson and Rev Linseth of Silverton conoducted 
the services.Albin Erickson of Canby sang two solos and Miss Carhouse from 
Silverton sang two solos.His body was laid to rest at the Zoar cemetary of 
Canby
