In Memoriam
Dr Alfred L Saylor died April 7,1912,at the Good Samaritan Hospital in 
Portland.Dr Saylor was born in Ottawa,Iowa,July 19,1847,being 63 years,8 
months,and 18 days old at the time of his death.
In 18714 he was married to Miss Susan Griffith,who  preceeded him in death on 
February 24th,this year.
To mourn his departure from this life he leaves three sons and one 
daughter,with three brothers and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held in the Congregational Church at this place Tuesday 
afternoon,the Reverands Cowman and Whitlock having charge,and on the early 
train Wednesday morning relatives and friends left with remains for 
McMinnville where internment took place beside his wife in the Saylor family 
lot in Masonic Cemetary immediately following the arrival of the train.
He was one of Oregons pioneers,coming across the plains with his parents in 
his boyhood.He received most of his education at McMinnville College,but 
finished his medical education ina Chicago institution,ranking among the 
pioneer physicians of this state and was Surgeon general in the State militia 
for eight years,during the administration of Governor Penoyer,holding the 
title of Colonel.He was also a member of G.A.R having served his country in 
the rebellion,the Masonic Lodge,Woodmen of the World and United Artisans.
He has lived in Sherwood for many years,where along with practice of medicine 
he was engaged in the drug business with his eldest son
