He was tilling the bottom of a ditch 14 feet deep,which is being constructed from the south end of Dr.Nichol's hopyard to the Clackamas River, when the sane on the bottom of the ditch loosened and caught both feet. He wrenched one foot loose, and E.bennettmanother workman,seeing his plight,sprang ot his aid,when, without warning,the top of the bank caed in,letting about 10 cubic yards of dirt on top of Robinson,burying him out of sight, and narrowly escaping Bennett. Workmen started at once to dig out the unfortunate man and succeeded in getting a rope about his body, when another lot of dirt caved in, and nearly two hours had elapsed when at last they brought him to the surface. He was a man of some property,owning a homestead, and had money in the bank.
