At the Portland depot Saturday friends waited in vain for Mr Rider, who is 79 yeasr old,to accompany the body of his beloved dead wife to burial in Sherwood. While they waited,Mr Rider was lying on the floor of his home at 5326 Foster Road,Portland, dead from grief over the loss of one who had been as life itself to him since their marriage fifty years ago. Left alone in the world a week ago,the old gentleman was grief stricken .Death itself intervened to relieve the mourning husband and sweetheart of many years. The friends at the depot waited and waited, missed one train and then another. With the kindly aid of friends, arrangements were made to take Mrs Riders body here, but the husband did not come. Becoming alarmed, the friends went to the Rider home.the doors were locked.Through a window they saw the old man lying prostrate on the floor. They summoned the coroner and detectives accompanied the party of investigation. Death,it was stated, was due to heart disease, undoubtedly brought about by grief over the death of his wife. the bodies of the aged coouple were buried here side by side. Mrs Rider is a sister of S.T Westfall of this place and at one time was a resident of this vicinity making her home on the Bauer place. The Journal extends sympathy to the bereaved brother and the many friends here who mourn her death File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/or/clackamas/obits/r/rider2286gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/orfiles/ File size: 2.5 Kb
