Funeral services were conducted at the grave Sunday afternoon by Rev. H.A. Wanvig, pastor of the Bethany churhc in this city. Mr.Reed, foreman of a bridge crew working in that vicinity, and his son, were out in the river with a motor boat drawing timbers to be used in bridge construction.A plank, it is said, became entangled with some object in the river and upset the boat, throwing the father and osn in the water. Norma Wall,a young girl, and a foreman of the Northen Pacific Co., were the only ones who witnessed the accident, but were unable to render any assistance. The girl ran for help and the man did all he could to rescue the man and boy, but no boat was available and the two bodies went out of sight iin the deep water, only to be revovered five days later after a diligent search. Mr.Reed had been working on the river every evenin, according to Mrs. Reed, who is here with her sister,Mrs.Roy Parmenter, at the present time.He had been such a cool master-hand on the water that no fear was ever entertained for his saftey. He was an expert swimmer and had worked with boats for years. It is believed that he undertook to save the boy and lost his own life in the attempt. The river is rapid and dangerous below the place that the accident occurred, and it is thought that the under current drew the unfortunate father and son into the dep water. Mr.Reed had lived in Portland for some time.He is survived by his widow, two girls and two boys, the oldest girl 13 and the youngets boy fourteen months. He was 39 years of age and his son was 11.
