All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com September 3, 2006, 9:31 am Clackamas County News August 7,1921 Young Man Of Lents Drowned Reuben merterud,2o years old,of Lents,lost his life Sunday afternoon in the swimming hole at the Pudding River campgrounds,near barlow,and although his body was recovered quickly,attempts to revive the young man were availing Young Merterud went to the river for an outing with a number of friends from Portland.The party was enjoying a swim,when the young man,who could not swim,was seen to be beyond his depth.Merterad sank,without coming to the surface but his companions quickly recovered his body and brought it ashore in a boat,Dr H.E.Dedman was called to the scene when resuscitation efforts were applied.It was thought that hesuccumbed to hearts disease as there was no water in his lungs.There were about a hundred people at the campground when the drowning occured. The body was taken in charge by Coroner O.A.Pace of Clackamas County,who took it to Oregon City and from there it was taken to the A.D. Kenworthy undertaking parlors at Lents.The father of the youth is proprietoe of a butcher shop at Lents.
