Melum Prominent Rancher Passes Away Thursday After An Illness Of Three Years Funeral services for the late Lars Melum,who passed away Thursday morning,August 16,after an illness of three years ,were held from the Zoar Lutheran Church of Canby,on Sunday afternoon,August 19,at one o'clock,with Rev H Rogen,pastor of the church officiating.Internment was in the Zoar cemetary near this city.The pallbearers were O.C Weiger,K.O.Lee,O.Jacobsen,O.M Matteson,John Furre,and T.P. Lee,all old time friends of the deceased. Lar melum was born near Lillehammer,Guldbransdalen,Norway,on May 6,1858,In 1866,when eight years old,,he immigrated to the United States,settling at Emherst Junction,Wisconsin.In 1885 he was united in marriage to Gunlid Nilson Wanbon,both of whom resided near New Hope,Wisconsin.In 1887 they moved to Minot,N.D.,where they owned and operated a big farm and cattle ranch for 18 years.Seeking a milder and more delightful climate in which to live,they came to Oregon in 1905,settling on a farm near this city,where they have made their home since.Mr Melum suffered a paralytic stroke about three years ago,from the effects of which he never recovered,and this resulted in his death at 3:30 Thursday morning,August 16,at the age of 65 years,three months,and ten days.In 1906 with his family,he joined the Zoar Lutheran Congregation of which he was an honored and active member.
