Mr Mathiot was born in France in 1836,and came to Oregon in 1852.He settled in Butteville on a donation land claim about the same date and resided there until his death.His farm was long noted for its beautiful vineyard and its scenic beauty.he was always prominent in the affairs of his community and was deeply interested in all matters conducive to the welfare of his section,and as long as his health permitted was active iin community and political affairs,though he never held nor desired political office.
