All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com October 29, 2006, 4:01 pm Sherwood News Sheet October 4,1911 Old Time Resident Gone Was Well Known and Well Respected Citizen Last THursday the news flashed through town and country that Thomas mathiesson,a citizen that had lived in this part of Oregon for Fouty one years has passed from life on earth to the life beyond.Thomas Mathiesson was born in Germany October 22,1848,and after spending the early part of his life in that country came to the United States,settling inIowa,where he remained till the year 1870.During this year he moved to Oregon and settled on theplace a few miles from this town,where he lived and prospered until the icy hands of death came to claim him as its own There remains one brother ,three sons and three daughters to mourn his untimely demise,his wife having died several years ago. His remains were interred in the Lutheran cemetary,Saturday,September 30,1911,Mr M.E.Buck,undertaker and Embalmer,having charge of the service. Tommy,as he was familiarly known,was well respected by everybody with whom he came in contact,and it is said that none other had a better reputation or commanded a greater reputation.He served as road supervisor for this district for a great number of years and always held the esteem of those working under his supervision,which speaks well for his tact in handling man and maintaining their respect at the same time.
