All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com August 12, 2006, 2:32 pm Aorora Borealis July 30,1908 Wilsonville Oscar lawson,the young man who was drowned at this place.Wednesday July 22,was 19 years of age and had graduated from the state university in Salem at the close of school in June.Larson went in bathing with his younger brother and two thers all whom were good swimmers but he himself could not swim and was keeping a large plank along for support.Suddenly tho others noticed that he did not have his plank and was struggling in the water.His brother succeeded in getting him by the hair as he came up the second time and a row boat also came ,but he sank again in 25 feet of water about 50 feet from shore.A man passing in a motorcar was a diver and after several attempts the body was recovered in half an hour.Oscars father is ablacksmith employed by the Oregon Electric Line and lives a short distance from the river.He leaves his parents ,two brothers and two sistera all younger than himself.The remains were interred in PLeasant Hill cemetary Thursday on account of the warm weather.The services were conducted by Rev Reed of Hood View Congregational Church.Oscar was considered by all who knew him to be a very bright and energetic young man and had just succeeded inn his school work much to the satisfaction of his family and friend.
