All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com December 26, 2006, 4:41 pm Canby Herald September 24,1925 Knight Funeral Held Here Last Saturday Pioneer Woman Buried In The Old Aurora Cemetary beside Her Husband Was a Member of the Old Aurora Colony Settling in Oregon Many Years Ago The funeral of Mrs.Annie Knight,a brief mention of whose death was made in the Herald last week,were held Saturday afternoon at the Methodist Church in Canby,Rev.W.Boyd Moore delivering the funeral address.A arge crowd of friends and relatives of the pioneer woman attended the services and paid their last respects to a woman held in high esteem throughout Clackamas County for many years.Internment was made in the Old Aurora cemetary,by the side of her husband,who passed away fourty three years previuos.Many floral offerings were made by friends through out different parts of the state.The pallbearers were D.H.Dimmick,A.L.Vinyard,Edward Bowman,,Thomas Hamilton,Frank Hylton and J.Erickson,all pioneers of the country. Mrs.Knight,a natve of Missouri,was 88 years of age.Her maiden name was Annie Burkholder.Soon after their marriage in Missouri,Mr.and Mrs.Adam Knight joined a colony and crossed the plains by ox team,first settling in Willapa,Washington.Later they moved to Oregon and located in this vicinity,beloonging to the old Aurora Colony.The town of Canby came inot existence after their arrival.Mr.Knight bought up several donation land claijms here from the settlers and before his death acquired something like 800 acres of land in what is nor known as the Riverside District.He was a blacksmith by trade and for years conducted a shop on the home place near what is now known as thew Knights Bridge on the Molalla River. Mrs.Knight is survived by a daughter,Miss Annie Knight,of Canby,and two sons,Adam H.Knight,Postmaster in Canby,and Andrew Knight of Portland. Left a idow early in life,with a big farm to look after and a family of children to povide for,Mrs.Knight's task was greater than most women living in this generation.But she was qual to the occasion,and fought the battle bravely and alone,living to see her children mature and become citizens of high repute.
