The family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in thier bereavement. On Sunday after dinner,Helen with two of her sisters,Inez,14 and Ada ,5, and her brother melvin,8 and several of the neighbor children, went wading in a little creek near their home, and while playing in the water, which was only about eight inches deep, she playfully stuck her head under the water to imitate diving, and no doubt swallowed some water which caused her to choke, for she began splashing the water, apparently in distress. Her 8 uear old brother, who was standing on the bank a few feet away, thinking she was only choking on some gum, went to her side and held her ehad above water, but by this time she was unconsciuos.Sensing that something worse other than choking on gum was wrong, the little boy pulled her up on a little gravel bar in the creek. Meanwhile, the other children ran down the banks of the stream calling for help, and a nearby outing party came to their aid.The drowned child was carried to the bank of the creek where all efforts to resuscitate her failed. An Oregon City physician, summone dby telephone, was unable to reach the scene in time, and could only pronounce the child dead. Her afther was attending church in Canby at the time of the accident, but arrived at the scene shortyl afterward.
