All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com October 15, 2006, 12:03 pm 3 Sisters October 11,1894 SUICIDE IN PORTLAND GEORGE HERRALL SHOOT HIMSELF BUSINESS REVERSES AND LITIGATION THE CAUSE Portland-Oct.8 At 6 o'clock this morning the dead body of George herrall,of the firm Herrall and Zimmerman proprietors of the United States Brewing Company,was found in a sitting postition on a bench in the back yard of his residence,at 402 Water street,by Andrew Zellman,foreman of the United States Brewery.There was a bullet wound in the head.Under hte edge of the bench on which the body was resting,a 32 calibre revolver with one empty chamber was found to tell the tale of death. Mr herrall went to Tacoma on the special excursion train Saturday morning,and returned on the regular train,which arrived about 11 0'clock last night.he was seen by several parties on the train,and nothing unusual was noticed in his actions.Juhn Gundel,of Gundel Bros & Co,soda works,was with him when the train arrived and shortly afterward left him on the street.Harrell saying he was going home.So far as known he was not seen alive after this time. Coroner Cornelius was notified of the body and took charge of the remains.The postition of the body and the circumstances,with the finding of the revolver where it had been dropped,were such as to leave no doubt that he had committed suicide. mr harrell was 61 years of age and a native of Germany.He had reside din this city a number of years and was widely well known.He has been reputed well-to- do,but has lsot considerable money in unseuccesful ventures the last few years,and was deeply involve din litigation,which had been preying on his mind of late.He went to Tacoma without informing his family or business associates who were at a loss to account for his absence from home.He was a member of different German secret societies,and was also an OOd Fellow File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/or/clackamas/obits/h/herrall2255gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/orfiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
