John Harms was born in Germany,October 17,1845.When about 14 yeas of age he enlisted as a cabin boy and crossed the oceans of the world.He followed sailing until he was 21 years of age,and in 1860 came to this country,locatingin Portland,moving to the Harms farm in the Macksberg district.He was married in 1872 and five children were born to that union.
