All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com October 21, 2006, 11:17 am Sherwood News Sheet February 28,1912 In memoriam Susan W Griffiths was born in New York City February 3,1849.She resided there until about 12 years of age,when her mother died and she was adopted by a Presbyterian minister,Rev Mitchel,who at one time was located as pastor at Logansport,Indiana.During her stay in this home she embraced christianity,uniting with the Presbyterian church,never changing her membership. In the year 1874 she came to Bellevue,oregon to make her home with a brother,Robert Griffiths. While boarding in the home of J.B Morris,of Sheridan,Oregon,she and Dr A L Saylor became acquainted and afterward were united in moarriage at Mr Morris's home on March 14,1875,by rev J.T Elliott,local pastor of the M.E Church. To this union were born seven children,namely George W,Marry A.,Susan M.,Lola W.,Edgar A.,Ell M., and Frank S.,four of whom still survive her,three daughters having preceded her in death. Dr and Mrs Saylor have resided within the state of Oregon all of their married lofe,the past fifteen years of which have been spent in Sherwood. Mrs Sayler passed into eternity on February 24,1912,at the age of 63 years and 21 days.To mourn her departure she leaves a husband,three sons,and one daughter,one gradndaughter,and many other relatives and friends. Memorial services were held in the Congregational church at this place Sunday afternoon at 2:30 and Burial tookplace in the Saylor family lot in Masonic cemetary at McMinnville,Monday about 1 o'clock,leaving here on the 8:31 train in the morning. Of Mrs Saylor it can well be said that she was all that is impile din the words wife and mother.She was the rpinci[al presiding spirit in the home,its life,heart and center.Ever ready to look after the needs and comforts of other members of the household.She wa sa woman that the write never saw,but has heard much,and all had nothing but words of praise for her.She loved home,ans spent the greater part of her time in the home,that it might be made attractive for the other members of the family. The members of the News Sheet extends their sympathy to the breaved family,and may the example of this deceased wife and mother be emulated by those left to mourn her loss.
